Will First Federal Savings Bank be issuing the new EMV or chip card?
Yes, First Federal Savings Bank is currently working through the process of offering the EMV chip card. These should start to be issued by the end of 2015 for new accounts and continue to be issued on current accounts as they expire.
What are chip cards?
A chip card-also called a smart card or EMV card-is a debit or credit card that contains a microprocessor that enhances the security of cards during the point-of-sale transactions.
I received my new Visa© Debit Card with the chip. How do I activate it?
You will need to activate your Visa© Debit Card by calling (800) 567-3451.
Can a chip card be used anywhere?
Yes. Chip cards can be used virtually anywhere this branch of card is accepted in the U.S. and around the world. If a merchant has a chip-enabled card terminal, cardholders will insert their card during the transaction. For merchants without chip-enable terminals, cardholders will “swipe” their card through the terminal, just as is done today.
Can cardholders still use their current card?
They can use their current card until they get a chip card. At that time, they should activate the new chip card and start using it. They should destroy their old card by shredding it.
